Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a term that’s currently trending in the health and beauty industries and, with celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Kim Kardashian claiming mind-blowing results, it’s become one of the most Googled topics of 2024.

But what is it really about and does it (seriously) work?

As a multi-disciplined massage therapist specialising in MLD, I’m here to tell you that there’s more to it than just hype. Here’s why it’s an essential part of achieving wellness:

The lymph controls your body’s immunity through a drainage system that is stimulated by natural movement and gravity. This process essentially: 

  • Removes toxins, pathogens and metabolic waste
  • Helps fighting infection

As a whopping 70% of the lymph system sits just under the skin, MLD is a gentle manipulation process, performed at the site of the body’s main filtration nodes, which are situated in the clavicle, armpits, elbows, knees, groin, sternum and ribs.
