1. What led you to choose a career as a Massage therapist?
Before starting my career as a massage therapist, I was a PE teacher. During that time, I became quite interested in injuries, because I happened to see quite a lot then, both with children and with my friends when playing football. Consequentially I got more interested in Sports Massage and how it can benefit people to rehab and get better. I started a Sports Massage course and other small courses, and then I started my Master's in Sports Rehabilitation, which is another way of me trying to look more in depth at how injured athletes and the general public can go back to performance and resume their daily routine lifestyles.
2. How would you describe your massage style?
First of all, I reflect on the client and how they feel. I then incorporate adequate pressure and movements. I personally like to include also trigger point therapy, which is one of my favourite techniques, because it helps release quite a lot of tension. I would say my main goal is always trying to do whatever I can and focus on the area that they need the most to make them feel better.
3. What is the biggest satisfaction and what is the biggest challenge of your job?
The biggest satisfaction would be seeing a client coming back and telling me they feel different and are now able to do things that they couldn’t do before. The biggest challenge would be to educate my clients about their condition and the solutions available so that with their understanding, I can help them at my best!
4. An interesting fact about Massage therapy that you think not many people know:
One fact is that it actually works. And I am saying this because I know that in the fitness world a lot of people have doubts about massage therapy and about how it works. But just having a conversation with people from our industry and clients, it is easy to find evidence that it does work. People do come back, and they do feel better after it.
5. What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to stay fit and active, so I do weightlifting, cardio and play football once a week with my friends. The other thing is that I’m quite a family-oriented guy, so I go out a lot with them and my little girl. She is 6 now and I know she needs me, so I do my best to spend as much time as I can with her. I also like to go out and eat whenever I have a chance!
6. The last time you travelled somewhere.
Dubai was the last time I went somewhere, and that was perfect because: I stayed fit, spend time with the little one and I ate. I ate lots of good food. A really nice place to go to relax and enjoy.
7. What is the most absurd thing you've been tricked into doing or believing?
I can be quite gullible sometimes, so my brother-in-law, who absolutely can’t cook, one day served me these amazing chops. I ate so many truly believing he did cook them! Later on, I found out he didn’t, and he actually ordered them from a restaurant. My wife and him were having a laugh about it behind my back for a couple of weeks.
8. If you could meet anyone in this world today, who would you meet?
Probably the Manchester United players to tell them how much they are depressing my life right now and how much stress they’re putting me under!
9. What is one ability that you believe everybody should possess?
I think one quality everyone should possess is understanding for each other. People do need to talk and understand one another.
10. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
In 5 years, I think I would like to see myself managing the Manchester United players, I think I would have a good style there incorporating my massage into their training! Seriously, I’d like to work with a club as a therapist and keep doing what I am doing right now helping general public.
